Polly Pocket Pharmacist Costume

Blaire, a petite Asian woman with dark brown hair, is dressed as a Polly Pocket Pharmacist. She is wearing a pink dress, pink lab coat, and pink platform doll shoes. She is standing with her arms extended to the side (like a doll) and is holding a large orange bucket decorated to look like a prescription bottle. Behind her is a rainbow-striped wall and a pegboard with craft supplies.

Learn how I made the cutest Polly Pocket Pharmacist costume!

If you’ve been to my blog before, you know just how much I LOVE making Halloween costumes for my whole family each year. There is no greater joy than parading around town in DIY costumes I’ve made myself and telling people “I made it!”! I have two small dogs and they are 100% my inspiration for our costume ideas. This year my dog Penny was a Polly Pocket and my dog Frankie was a Tamagotchi, two toys I absolutely loved as a kid. At first I had a hard time figuring out what my husband and I would be (maybe 90’s toys?), then realized both of these toys had characters inside. So that’s when I got the genius idea I could be Polly herself!

Of course I couldn’t just make a regular Polly Pocket for my dog Penny. We don’t do plain and simple around here! 😉 I had to make her a pet hospital version, complete with a very detailed illustration inside. My past background as an inpatient pharmacist inspired me to add a Polly pharmacist (a made up character!) to the interior, so naturally I decided I needed to be Polly pharmacist too! I already had a prescription bottle bucket from my pillbox costume a few years earlier so decided to use that and build around it.

Curating the Perfect Polly Pocket Costume

When I think of Polly Pocket, I immediately think of the color pink – pink plastic cases and tiny dolls dressed in pink! I know that vintage Polly Pockets came in a lot of color schemes, but pink stands out as the iconic color for me.

People generally think of pharmacists in white coats (although in the hospital setting, I often wore scrubs). When I was browsing white coats online, I discovered that there were actually PINK lab coats too. I decided Polly would most definitely be wearing a pink lab coat if that existed, so quickly added one to my cart. I already had a pink dress at home that happened to perfectly match the lab coat I ordered. Then, several days before a pet Halloween event I discovered the MOST PERFECT POLLY POCKET SHOES!! I immediately ordered them and the Amazon delivery gods dropped them on a my porch a few minutes before we were supposed to leave the house for the event. Needless, to say I was ecstatic!

To complete this Polly Pocket costume, I added accessories including clip-on bangs (soo 90’s), a thick pink headband (also very 90’s!), pom-pom pill earrings, and an ID bag with a pill-shaped badge reel! Keep reading to get the costume links and DIY info!

Prescription Bottle Bucket

I’m so proud of this prescription bottle bucket that’s actually perfect for trick-or-treating! I took an orange paint bucket and decorated it to look like an orange prescription bottle. I designed the medication label in Canva and the auxiliary labels in Cricut Design Space. Once I printed them, I applied a clear laminating sheet (for waterproofing), then cut them out. Finally I stuck them on the bucket! Don’t forget to add a white lid to keep all your Halloween candy under wraps!

You can see a close up of the bucket in this video!

Pink Headband

I didn’t own a pink headband and didn’t have time to buy one, so I made my own! I took an old headband and wrapped some leftover pink fleece (from Penny’s Polly Pocket costume) around it. I hot glued the edges of the fleece so it would be concealed underneath the headband. I didn’t do the neatest job, but it worked perfectly for this costume. Bonus: The thick fleece actually made the headband more comfortable to wear (it didn’t dig in behind my ears as much).

Pom-pom Pill Earrings

I actually made these earrings for my pillbox costume, but decided they went with this costume too! I don’t have a tutorial for these, but you basically wrap opposite sides of a pom pom maker (here’s my favorite set) in different colored yarn and trim them to form a pill shape. To make them earrings, attach a jump ring to the center of the pom pom, string on a chain, and attach it to earring hooks.

Pill Badge Reel + ID Badge

I designed the name badge in Canva using the Polly pharmacist illustration from my dog’s Polly Pocket costume. I printed it on cardstock and cut it to fit into a clear card sleeve. Fun fact: The QR code links to my Instagram page! A great trick for when you’re meeting new people at events.

For the pill badge reel, I took an old badge reel and covered it with a cute pink and purple pill I made with my Cricut. First, I cut out a pill shape from gold glitter iron-on vinyl and applied it to a piece of gold felt. I trimmed off the excess felt, leaving a sparkly pill shape. The pill halves were cut from pink and lavender faux leather and hot glued onto the pill shape backing. For the final touch, I cut out a P (for Polly Pocket!) from gold glitter iron-on and attached it to the purple half. The whole thing was hot glued to the front of the badge reel!
