About This Directory
When Joann announced it would be closing all of its stores, I realized I had no idea where to shop locally for fabric and sewing supplies beyond the big box retailers. After hearing similar concerns from friends and small business owners, I wanted to create a resource that would help us all find the supplies we need while supporting independent businesses in our community.
I gathered recommendations from Instagram, Facebook, and Threads to compile this directory — a guide to help you discover local shops for art and craft supplies. Among this list are stores that carry a little bit of everything, specialty stores (eg. sewing, quilting, art, yarn), and stores that sell secondhand materials. I hope it makes shopping for your next creative project so much easier!
How to Use This Directory
The list is alphabetized by city name and includes street address, website URL, supplies sold, ways to shop (eg. in-person, online), and other notes that might be helpful.
If you’re on desktop, you can search for a specific material by using CTRL + F to bring up the search bubble. Simply type in the material you’re looking for and scroll through the directory to view the highlighted items. Please note that the “supplies sold” is a brief summary based on the information I gathered online and may not accurately reflect all the items sold in-store or online.
For in-person shopping, please visit the websites and contact stores directly to find out their current hours. Opening hours may vary day to day and some stores require appointments for entry.

Physically located in the San Francisco Bay Area
Independent or locally owned
Craft-Related Products – The store should specialize in or carry a substantial inventory of craft, fabric, sewing, quilting, knitting, art supplies, or other creative materials.
Publicly Accessible – The store must be open to the public (not a private workshop or members-only business).
Unique or Specialized Offerings (optional, but recommended) – Stores that offer unique products, specialty fabrics, or hard-to-find materials are especially encouraged.
I’m also open to corrections or suggestions to improve this directory — whether it’s updated information, new shop offerings, or anything else that could make this resource more helpful. I’ll do my best to review and update the directory within 14 days of your submission.
